What Is Follicular Unit Hair Transplant Surgery?
The gold standard in hair transplantation is a method known as follicular unit hair transplantation, or FUHT for short. FUHT offers a couple of different options: follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit strip harvest (FUS). Both options have their benefits. We’ll choose the best method for you based on your hair pattern, genetics, and desires.
What Is Follicular Unit Extraction?
Follicular unit extraction involves moving singular follicular units of hair—small groupings of 1-4 hairs growing from a single follicle. We use the S.A.F.E. method for extraction to minimize healing in the donor area as well as recovery downtime. Small slits are made in the transfer area and the follicular units for transplantation are placed into these small slits. No stitches are needed!
What Is Follicular Strip Harvest?
With follicular strip harvest, a strip of hair is removed from the donor area (often the side or back of the head). The area is stitched closed and the strip is divided into follicular units for transplant. The incisions are carefully placed and hidden by the remaining hair.
Will My Hair Transplantation Results Last?
Hair transplantation is a lasting solution to hair loss. Hair at the top of the head may be sensitive to hormones known as androgens. The hair on the sides and back of the head, however, is resistant to these hormones. By transplanting these resistant hairs into areas with hair loss, we can restore a fuller head of hair—one that is likely to last a lifetime.
