Cosmelan MD

Pigmentation concerns affect most adults, and are caused by a variety of factors, such as the natural effects of aging, sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations, or acne. Hyperpigmentation, the condition that causes dark or irregular spots, is caused by an overproduction of melanin in the skin, the pigment responsible for skin color. This can be an issue for patients regardless of skin color, because the appearance of dark spots or nonuniform texture or tone can prematurely age the skin. My Houston Surgeons is proud to offer Cosmelan MD Depigmentation Treatment, the world’s best-selling depigmenting treatment. In addition to standard Cosmelan MD offerings, we have developed an exclusive Cosmelan MD Post Procedure Skincare Kit and our Cosmelan MD Maintenance Skincare Kit to dramatically reduce or eliminate dark spots of melanic origin, while smoothing skin tone for a more youthful-looking luminous and healthy glow.

Benefits of Cosmelan

  • Reduces or eliminates dark spots
  • Corrects uneven or irregular skin
  • Enhances skin tone
  • Minimizes chances of reappearance of dark spots
  • Is a non-invasive depigmentation treatment for all skin types
  • Is highly effective in treating pigmentation issues caused by Chloasma, Melasma, UV and PIH

Am I A Candidate For Cosmelan?

The Cosmelan MD Depigmentation Treatment is safe for use on all skin types. During your consultation, one of our surgeons will discuss your skin goals and tailor a treatment plan that will help you achieve them.

What to Expect During Your Cosmelan Treatment

There are two phases of the Cosmelan MD Depigmentation Treatment; the first part of your treatment will consist of the application of a yellow color mask (Cosmelan 1) after a thorough cleansing of the skin in your state-of-the-art treatment room at the My Houston Surgeons office. Your physician will instruct you to leave the mask in place for 4-8 hours, depending on your skin type, and then you will be allowed to go home with the mask on. After your prescribed wait time has elapsed, you can wash away the mask with a neutral cleanser and water. Immediately after removing the mask, you will apply the provided Mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K cream to your freshly cleansed skin.

The second part of your Cosmelan MD Depigmentation Treatment is ongoing routine maintenance consisting of a daily application of the Cosmelan 2 cream. You will apply this cream three times per day for one week, twice a day for the second week, and then once a day in the third week following your initial mask.

Cosmelan Recovery

In the first two days of the Cosmelan MD treatment, it is common for the skin to turn red. In the first 24-48 hours of treatment, tightening of the skin and slight burning is typical and not a cause for concern. Patients with sensitive skin may experience some itching. Flaking is also common between the second and third day. My Houston Surgeons recommend applying Mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K to relieve these symptoms as necessary. In approximately four days following the start of the treatment, most patients find that their skin looks luminous, healthy, and more even in tone as dark spots from hyperpigmentation begin to fade.

Cosmelan Results

Cosmelan MD Depigmentation Treatment can reduce hyperpigmentation by up to 95% in most patients. While the reduction of dark spots is visibly noticeable after just one week of treatment, full effects can be seen with dark spots and blemishes fully eliminated in most cases after the third week of treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmelan

Can I stop Cosmelan MD at any time during the three-week course of treatment?

No, we do not advise interrupting your Cosmelan MD treatment before the treatment runs its course.

Can I combine Cosmelan MD with other skin or pigmentation treatments?

We do not recommend combining the Cosmelan MD Depigmentation Treatment with any other depigmentation treatments. This could result in undesirable effects or a less-than-ideal outcome.

What is the difference between Cosmelan MD and a TCA peel?

Cosmelan MD is a non-invasive depigmentation treatment that also functions as a light peel and requires no downtime. The TCA peel is stronger and penetrates deeper into the skin, removing several of its outer layers, requiring roughly one week of downtime.

Do I need to discontinue everyday activities during my Cosmelan MD treatment?

No, you do not need to discontinue or modify your normal activities during your Cosmelan MD treatment.

Can I do my Cosmelan MD treatment during the summer?

Yes, you can do a Cosmelan MD treatment anytime during the year.
