International Women’s Day for All Women, Including You!
More than 100 years have gone by since the first International Women’s Day. We’ve come a long way since that groundbreaking edition on February 28th, 1909 in New York. While there is still a lot of work ahead, more than 100 countries in the world acknowledge that men and women should be treated as equals, and they commit themselves to ensuring fair wages, and dignity and respect for all.
What started small with “bread and roses” International Women’s Day is an official holiday or at least widely observed in many countries. Some consider it an alternative to Mother’s Day too. On International Women’s Day, millions of men all over the world give flowers or a present to the women who mean something to them: mothers, wives, girlfriends, and daughters.
A Moment of Reflection
There may be several women in your life you think of on this day, but one that should eventually come to mind is yourself. Maybe, your life didn’t take the turns you’d envisioned, but instead, something else happened, something unexpected yet wonderful. You have become unforgivably you. A woman who despite the harsh and testing world we live in, has overcome hardships, obstacles and moments of self-doubt. And sometimes, you should indulge, celebrate, and even revel in your own right. Just because.
Don’t forget to take care of you; physically, emotionally, and mentally. Take a vacation, ditch the kids/husband for a night out with the girls, read a good book, go to the spa, get that massage you keep rescheduling, hell, if you want fuller, more plump lips then you do that! But whatever it is, do it for you!
Turn Recognition Into Acknowledgement
By now you’ve probably identified a couple great women you admire. With those names in mind, it’s time you let them know! Whether it be your ever dependable mom, always-ready-with-a-cocktail best friend, or some leading ladies at work, knowing they’re appreciated and telling them is two very different things. At MHS, it takes the entire team to run the office. And yes, the men are wonderful, talented and very much appreciated, but today let’s recognize the ladies! Out of our eight member physician team, four are board certified, award-winning female plastic surgeons.
