The Chin Augmentation Procedure
Our team of surgeons have vast experience in performing chin repositioning surgery. This surgical procedure corrects the underlying bone framework and improves the appearance of the chin.
For better evaluation of the chin, photographs will be taken in both frontal and lateral view. The surgeon will measure and compare the position of the chin and overall dimensions of the face. Based on this measurement, digital morphing of the chin and anticipated changes are proposed and reviewed.
From there, our surgeons recommend the best procedure for our patients: either an implant surgery, or a bony chin surgery.
Types of Chin Augmentation
Implant Surgery: This surgery involves the placement of an implant, most often silicone, into the chin area. The procedure is done only if a small augmentation is necessary. This can be especially beneficial for older patients, as it reduces risk and down time. One of our surgeons will choose the right implant to give you excellent results with minimal risk, pain and discomfort.
Bony Chin Surgery: This procedure aims to reduce the size of the chin, while also changing the vertical position of the chin if necessary. Our surgeons carefully cut the bone of the chin and move it to the proper, pre-determined location. We recommend this procedure for those who require larger advancements and need the extra stability that the bone structure can offer. Though there is more swelling and discomfort associated with this procedure, these symptoms typically only last for a few days.
Beyond these two options, some patients may qualify for the use of additional soft tissue procedures to further enhance their cosmetic result.
