A facelift is a facial rejuvenation procedure that can elevate your facial skin, tissues, and muscles to restore a more refreshed and youthful-looking appearance. (1)

Over time, both intrinsic aging and environmental exposure lead to loss of elasticity, tissue descent, and changes in facial contours. A facelift addresses these changes by restoring structure, not simply tightening the skin, allowing your external appearance to better reflect how you feel.

About Facelifts

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that can reduce visible signs of aging across the face, jawline, and neck to refine and revitalize your appearance. This procedure consists of lifting, tightening, and repositioning your facial skin, soft tissues, muscles, and other underlying structures, and it can address concerns that contribute to an aged appearance, such as vertical neck banding, descending tissue, and inelastic skin.

Our Available Facelifts

At myHoustonSurgeons, our surgical team offers several different variations of the facelift to address a wide range of concerns found across the mid-face, lower face, neck, and jawline. Our surgical team can fully customize each one according to your individual concerns, goals, and existing anatomy, allowing you to achieve each of your aesthetic goals.

Skin-Only Lifts

The skin-only lift is a variation of the facelift that primarily addresses your skin but also adjusts subcutaneous fat and underlying muscle. This procedure is effective for addressing early to mild signs of aging and other superficial concerns.

Dual Plane Facelifts

A dual-plane facelift is a type of facelift that lifts the skin and underlying facial structures separately to correct concerns across both levels of tissue. This procedure can address the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS) for deeper rejuvenation, which is a layer of fibrous tissue that connects your skin to your key facial muscles. (2)

Composite Lift/Deep Plane Facelift

The composite lift or deep plane facelift can refine your features by elevating your skin and SMAS layer as a single, composite unit. (3) This can help you achieve more subtle yet profound results and avoid the “overly-tightened” or “over-pulled” appearance many people often associate with facelift procedures.

Subperiosteal Lifts

The subperiosteal lift is a type of facelift procedure that lifts your skin, soft tissues, SMAS layer, as well as your periosteum. The periosteum is the thin connective sheath that tethers your facial tissues to your facial bones. Your surgeon can perform this approach to correct any significant or extensive structural concerns found across the midface, especially those around the cheeks.

Short Scar Facelift

A short scar facelift is a procedure that focuses on vertically elevating your skin and facial tissues. Our surgeons use smaller incisions to access your underlying facial structures when performing this procedure, which may contribute to a shorter recovery. (4)

Facelift Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for a facelift if you are interested in softening and reducing any visible signs of facial aging, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Creases
  • Fine Lines
  • Jowling
  • Deep Nasolabial Folds
  • Fat Descent
  • Loose or Sagging Skin
  • Vertical Neck Banding

To qualify for your procedure, you should possess good overall health and maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine entirely. One of our expert surgeons will determine your candidacy during your consultation.

Personal Consultation

Our surgeons tailor each treatment plan, which is why we ask that you attend a consultation before undergoing your procedure. During your personal consultation, one of our surgeons will meet with you individually to explain what each facelift procedure consists of, learn more about your medical history, converse with you about your personal concerns, and discuss your desired results. Your surgeon will also perform a physical examination to evaluate your facial anatomy and skin quality.

Your surgeon will use this information to create a personalized solution for each of your concerns. They will determine the most effective approach, as well as the most appropriate corrections to make. They will also dedicate time to answer and address any questions or concerns you may have, as we want you to leave this meeting with a full understanding of what to expect from your facelift.

If you are ready to schedule this consultation, please submit our online contact form. If you have any additional questions or prefer scheduling over the phone, please call (713) 587-6553 to reach both our Houston and The Woodlands offices.

Preparation

There are several preparations you will need to make once you have scheduled your procedure. To help, your surgeon will provide you with a full set of detailed instructions, which may include:

  • Discontinuing Certain Medications: Avoid taking any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning or antiplatelet properties.
  • Arranging A Ride: Ask a trusted friend or relative to drive you home after your procedure, as you will not be able to transport yourself.
  • Preparing Time Off: Take time away from your career, social commitments, and other responsibilities to allow yourself time to rest.
  • Picking Up Medications: Fill any prescriptions for your recovery ahead of time to ensure you have them ready for when you need them.
  • Avoiding Specific Substances: Refrain from consuming any nicotine or alcohol in the weeks leading up to your appointment, as these substances can lead to complications during and after your procedure.

Recovery

After your facelift, you will need to take some time to focus on your recovery. You may return to most of your daily activities after resting for approximately one to two weeks. However, you will need to refrain from participating in any physically demanding or vigorous activities for another several weeks, or until your surgeon directs you otherwise.

As you heal, you may experience some swelling, bruising, or tenderness. These effects are temporary and will dissipate on their own with time, but you can also manage them using a cold compress, medications your surgeon prescribes, and plenty of rest.

Your surgeon will give you a full set of post-operative instructions to help you care for yourself as you heal. By following each instruction closely, you can return to your routine more quickly and comfortably, all while ensuring the best possible results from your procedure.

Results

After a full recovery, you will be able to enjoy the results of your facelift. While they may vary, you can generally expect smoother and tighter skin, accentuated facial contours, reduced jowling, and softened neck bands, each of which can promote a more vibrant and youthful-looking appearance overall.

The results of your facelift will be long-lasting, with effects that you can enjoy for up to a decade. However, you must understand that your procedure is not a permanent solution and cannot stop the natural aging process.

Corresponding Procedures

In almost all cases, our surgeons include a neck lift in facelift procedures. Addressing the neck and face as one comprehensive unit can enhance rejuvenation and lead to longer-lasting results. If you have concerns such as significant jowling, neck banding, and a soft or weak jawline, then including a neck lift in your facelift can create sharper contours and tighten skin throughout the lower face.

Cost of Facelifts in Houston, Texas

The cost of your facelift will vary depending on the details of your personalized treatment plan, as our team considers several factors when determining pricing. These can include the type of facelift your surgeon performs, the extent of your concerns, and the overall complexity of your procedure. After establishing your treatment plan, your surgeon will give you a comprehensive cost estimate. We additionally offer financing for those who qualify.
